Abstract

Background. The study of the behavior of individuals in the labor market has become the subject of many studies; the special significance of this problem is acquired within such a social group as youth. This is due to the fact that the younger generation acts as a guarantor of the future development of any society. In modern conditions, there are a number of problems and contradictions that young people face when starting their career. The most important is the change in the labor market itself: the “death” of some professions, the emergence of new types of employment that generate income, the introduction of digital and information and communication technologies, etc. All of these factors have an impact on the work practices and strategies of young people. In this regard, the purpose of the study is to analyze the value of work among young people and the formation of labor strategies of modern young people. Materials and methods. The empirical base of the study includes a questionnaire survey of the youth of the Penza region (2023, n = 395), research data from VTsIOM (the Russian Public Opinion Research Center) and FOM (Public Opinion Foundation), statistical data from the Federal State Statistics Service on the dynamics of the number and employment of youth, secondary analysis of studies devoted to the study of youth labor strategies. Results. The data obtained made it possible to analyze the value orientations of the modern young generation; to determine the strategies of their behavior in the labor sphere; to consider the factors affecting the labor orientations of young people; to identify the goals that modern youth sets for themselves. Conclusions. Strategies of young people are formed under the influence of their value system and environmental factors. For modern young people, the labor sphere acts as a means of achieving their life plans. With the help of labor, most strive for material prosperity and professionalism, creating their own business.
